Utility strike prevention startup wins best pitch at Southampton startup roadshow

After hearing from a selection of startups, the Southampton winner of the South East Startup Roadshow, hosted by South East Angels, has been announced: Scannetix

About Scannetix
Three years ago, founder Jamie Tong witnessed a utility accident which resulted in a colleague being injured on site. He was curious to explore what had occurred and how it could have been prevented so he carried out a research paper sponsored by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and The Worshipful Company Of Constructors, analysing the causes and implications of utility strikes.

The statistics are shocking, 60,000 utility accidents occur every year in the UK. That is 164 a day, every day, all year round. These have significant implications to businesses, personnel and the community.

Partnered with Innovate UK, Scannetix are working on developing an innovative solution to utility strikes. This product is called B-UDS and will become the new gold standard of excavation, standardising methodology and most importantly saving lives, whilst supporting UK infrastructure.
